The American Jobs Act – Helping Small Businesses
Posted by on September 28, 2011
The American Jobs Act (H.R. 12) will help small businesses innovate, grow and create jobs. In the last few months, the American people have witnessed endless gridlock in Congress.  Now is the time to work across party lines to boost the economy for the good of the Country.  What should Congress do to improve the economy?  Share your comments below.

American Jobs Act provisions to help small businesses grow and hire:
  • Cut in half small business payroll taxes (to 3.1%) for the first $5 million in wages
  • Temporarily eliminate employer payroll taxes for small businesses that create jobs or give raises for existing workers above the prior year
  • Extend the immediate 100% expensing write-off into 2012 to encourage even more businesses to invest in more machinery and equipment
  • Large tax credits (up to $4,000) for businesses that hire workers who have been unemployed for 6 months, with bigger credits for hiring unemployed veterans
  • Help small business contractors compete for infrastructure contracts and get SBA surety bonds up to $5 million
  • Turn job seekers into job creators by making it easier for states to allow unemployed workers to start their own businesses
  • Increase skills-based training to help workers transition to the innovation economy
  • Raise the cap on “mini” public offerings of small firms from $5 million to $50 million and reducing the disproportionately high costs that smaller companies face when “going public.”

Just where is the money coming from to pay for this! Get the government out of creating jobs and give it to the small businesses and job creators in the private sector. This way it doesn't cost me a taxpayer any more money. Repeal Obama care so businesses can hire people. The government cannot afford to borrow any more money.

I agree with Ms Thomas - since when does government EVER create jobs. Get out of the way - stop making stupid laws that destroy jobs - like Obama care. Stop the constant threat of raising taxes on small businesses (that would be what the President, and Buffet have called 'the rich,???!) Let's talk about cutting spending instead of lets spend some more. I'm certain Congressman that you don't constantly outspend your income. Listen to what Robert Johnson (owner of the NBA Charlotte Bobcats) had to say last week. We MUST balance the budget by cutting spending NOT raising taxes. We need a balanced budget - we need the Fair Tax - study it - understand it - it's time for all of you in Washington to start thinking out-of-the-box. Become a leader to REALLY create jobs.

Nancy Thomas is right on !!!!! Get the government under control and stop the move to socialism. Americans need to remember, we take care of the government not the other way around. I don't know about you, but I work for a rich man not a poor man. You tax him out of business and I don't have a job. Socialism does not work - Europe proved that in the 1960's. We should learn from history - not repeat it.

FDR created the WPA during the Great Depression. I'm sure the many people it helped were glad to find a job.

I say let's create more jobs by legalizing Pot - sell it like liquor with an age limit, let it be taxed, etc. Same with specialty stores that sell food items cooked with pot. Sometimes I think people go for it because it's so hard to get. Marijuana should be treated like a socially acceptable adult medical or recreational enhancement. Nobody fights after smoking a joint. All people want to do is go out and buy more food. Let's make some money for Georgia! Think of all the green and I'm not talkin' weed! Thanks.
