On July 28, Congressman Scott voted for supplemental FEMA funding for property buyouts in the Atlanta suburbs.  The funding is included as a part of H.R. 4899, the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2010.  H.R. 4899 is now headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

The Supplemental Appropriations Act includes $5.1 billion for the FEMA Disaster Relief Fund. Georgia has $33,255,079 worth of projects around the state that had been approved for mitigation, but not previously funded.  These projects include about 120 Atlanta-area properties in flood plains. To qualify for the money, damage to the homes had to be more than 50 percent of their appraised value. The homes will be demolished and preserved as green space and flood buffers.

In addition, the U.S. Small Business Administration is reminding small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private non-profit organizations of all sizes that August 4 is the filing deadline for federal economic injury disaster loans available in Georgia.  The SBA declared a disaster as a result of severe storms and flooding that began on Sept. 18, 2009. Loan applications can be downloaded from the SBA’s website at www.sba.gov.
