This week, Representatives Lucy McBath (GA-06) and David Scott (GA-13) released the response they received from Atlanta VA Medical Center Director Ann Brown regarding their inquiry into the ongoing development of a new VA Multi-Specialty Clinic in Cobb County. In July, after reports that certain VA clinic projects were delayed by an average of two years, McBath and Scott sent a letter to Director Brown in support of increased care programs and to advocate for services focused on women veterans.

“As a nation, we owe our veterans and service members the utmost respect and admiration for their courage, dedication, and sacrifice,” said Scott. “When transitioning back into civilian life, women veterans often face different challenges than their male counterparts. If we are to fulfill our commitment to women veterans, we must prioritize their needs. The new VA Multi-Specialty Clinic will help ensure women veterans in Cobb County and nearby areas receive access to the care they deserve and need. And I will continue working in Congress to strengthen health care and other services for our women veterans.”

“Taking care of our veterans is one of my top priorities, and I am especially concerned on behalf of our women veterans,” McBath said. “As the population of women veterans continues to grow in Georgia, we must ensure that new facilities and clinics are designed with women in mind. I look forward to continuing this dialogue with Director Brown to see that the needs of women veterans in Cobb County and the state of Georgia are properly addressed.”

The McBath and Scott letter asks that a new Multi-Specialty Clinic in Cobb County be tailored to fit the needs of women veterans. Director Brown’s response, which can be viewed here, detailed several women’s health care initiatives that are planned for the new clinic.

According to the letter, the new clinic on Bells Ferry Road will staff a minimum of two Designated Women Health Providers and one Women’s Health Liaison Nurse Champion. Additionally, the clinic will have exclusive space for social work and gynecology services for women veterans. The Atlanta VA Medical Center takes care of over 20,000 women veterans, more than any other VAMC in the country. The Multi-Specialty Clinic on Bells Ferry Road in Marietta is scheduled to open in August of 2022.
