COLLEGE PARK, GA (CBS46) -

Verlicia Carroll is the Human Resource Specialist for the gunmaker Glock.

Just last year she was in the same position as many people looking for jobs at U.S. Congressman David Scott's 11th Annual Job Fair at the Georgia International Convention Center, Friday.

"It was extremely tough to find a job. After six months not being able to find anything, a year went by, a year and a half went by, I was at loss. I was at a loss," said Carroll.

Glock was one of more than 100 companies that need to fill positions.

"They are looking to fill 4,449 positions. That's how many jobs can walk out of here today," said Scott.

Employers included Home Depot, Walmart, Glock, several law enforcement agencies, banks and several others.

Carroll attended Scott's job fair last year looking for a job.

"Everyone said it doesn't work, it's a waste of time, but I came anyway. I just wanted to get my resume out there the best I could and make an impression by talking to people," said Carroll.

Now she's in a position to help others.

"Did not think within a year's time I would be standing here recruiting," said Carroll.

In addition to jobs, help was available for those facing foreclosure.

"We have $339 million that we brought down from Washington to help struggling homeowners who are unemployed or under employed, to get up to 24 months free home mortgage," said Scott.
