Today, Congressman David Scott (GA-13), Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee, was awarded the Federal Leadership Award by the Jump$tart Coalition as part of the 2023 Financial Literacy Awards ceremony. The award recognizes leaders from the federal government who are using their platform to promote financial literacy and financial education.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the Jump$tart Coalition for my work to help young Americans build confidence and capability in their financial knowledge,” stated Congressman Scott. “By embracing financial education early, our young people can learn essential life skills that will equip them to make informed financial decisions, from managing the costs of higher education to even purchasing a home. I thank the Jump$tart Coalition and its members for the work they do every day to ensure all Americans have access to financial tools and support.”

As a senior Member of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, Congressman Scott has introduced multiple legislative initiatives to aid families, support homeownership, and enhance and expand available financial literacy resources:

  • The Consumer Financial Education and Empowerment Act, a bill to help bolster financial education programs in schools, libraries, non-profits, and similar organizations.
  • The Financial Inclusion in Banking Act, a bill to study the causes leading to, and solutions for, under-banked, and underserved communities.
  • The Coronavirus Homeowner Assistance Act, which was passed as part of the American Rescue Plan and established a $10 billion Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) to help families financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to remain in their homes.
