Congressman David Scott Introduces Resolution Honoring Georgia’s Historic LGBTQ+ Community

Today, Congressman David Scott (GA-13), Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee, was joined by members in the Georgia Delegation to introduce a Congressional Resolution honoring the sacrifice, triumphs, and continued struggle towards full equality of LGBTQ+ individuals in Georgia.

Coinciding with Pride Month, this resolution traces the long and storied history of the LGBTQ+ movement in the Peach State. The legislation recognizes important milestones, tribulations, and successes in the movement, highlighting lessons from the past and expressing hope for the future.

“I, along with fellow Members of Congress, am privileged to introduce this important resolution honoring Georgia’s LGBTQ+ community,” said Congressman David Scott. “Georgia’s LGBTQ+ community has traveled a long, hard road in their fight for equal rights, and that fight continues today in the face of bigoted attacks and repressive laws. I am proud to introduce a resolution to recognize the thousands of local LGBTQ+ activists, community organizers, and families for their hard-fought victories, and recognize the work still necessary to guarantee equality for all.”

This resolution has been endorsed by Georgia Equality, one of the state’s leading groups fighting for LGBTQ+ rights. Executive Director Jeff Graham stated, "The struggle for acceptance and equality for LGBTQ Georgians is long and complicated. There have been dramatic wins and tragic losses, just as there have been for other movements in Georgia's history. We are grateful to Rep. David Scott for recognizing and honoring many of the key individuals and organizations within the LGBTQ community who have added to Georgia's legacy of civil and human rights. At a time when there are many who are actively working to erode the progress we have made, it's important to remember and highlight this struggle during Pride Month."
