Dear Friend:
Even though October 1 was the beginning of the 2012 federal fiscal year, Congress has not passed any funding bills. This week, Congress will pass a stop-gap bill to fund the government through November 18. While it is possible that in the spirit of Thanksgiving, all of the FY2012 federal funding bills will be passed by that date, it is more likely that additional stop-gap measures will need to be passed through December. If you are asking if Congress has come close to government shutdown many times this year, you would be correct. This is what gridlock and a lack of congressional leadership looks like.
Congress needs to stop the petty bickering and find common ground to pass much-needed jobs legislation. A good start would be to consider the American Jobs Act. You can read about some of the small business provisions of the American Jobs Act at this link.
Please, take a few minutes to read about the latest news in the district and D.C.
