Dear Friend:
Happy New Year. On Wednesday, the new session of Congress officially started with the swearing-in of Members of the House and Senate. On Wednesday, I took the oath of office and hosted an open-house in my Washington office for constituents and friends. On Thursday, I was honored to be one of the Members to read part of the Constitution from the House floor.
While this week was full of ceremonial business, there is a sense of urgency that Congress must sharply focus on improving the economy and reducing the federal deficit. It is my hope that we can find some bipartisan agreement to tackle some of the big challenges facing America.
Please take a minute to read up on the latest news from Congress and the 13th Congressional District.

On Saturday, January 15, Congressman Scott will march in the Clayton County MLK parade.
Recent House Votes
This week, the House voted on leadership positions and for new rules governing House procedures. Among these votes, Congressman Scott voted for H.Res 22, which cuts the Representatives' budgets by 5 percent. While these cuts may only cut $35 million from the budget, it is important to show that every federal budget item is going to be under scrutiny.
