Dear Friend:
Last week was a busy week in the district. The focus of the week was job creation and innovation. I was honored to visit with the Cobb and Douglas County Chambers of Commerce at their annual dinners. I also visited employees at businesses in the district: Tyco International, IBM and Lockheed-Martin.
On Saturday, we hosted our annual military academy reception. Over 150 family and friends attended the ceremony, which honored the students that I nominated to the US military academies. Two families were present at the event to receive posthumous medals for loved ones who passed without receiving their awards. A full list of the nominees can be found at this link.
Please take a minute to read up on the latest news from Congress and the 13th Congressional District.

American Heart Month
February often brings to mind thoughts of Valentine’s Day and images of hearts. But the heart is much more than a symbol – it is also the vital organ that pumps blood throughout our body. We tend to take our heart for granted until our own heart or that of a loved one stops working properly. Regrettably, more than 80 million American adults suffer from heart disease, stroke, or some other form of cardiovascular disease. In recognition of the need to continue the fight against heart disease, our nation’s No. 1 killer, each year the President designates February as American Heart Month. During Heart Month, I encourage you to take a few easy steps to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The American Heart Association’s My Life Check empowers you to take a big step toward a healthier life. In just a few minutes, you can get your personal heart score and a custom plan with the 7 simple steps you need to start living your best life: www.mylifecheck.org
