Congressman David Scott, Representing Georgia's 13th District

Dear Friend:

This week, House Republicans took further steps to eliminate foreclosure assistance programs.  While I hear from constituents that these programs should work better, I don't hear that we should just stop all progress.  I am willing to work with the Administration, Republicans and banks to help homeowners stay afloat.  But, I am not willing to just end all programs.

Please take a minute to read up on the latest news from Congress and the 13th Congressional District.

Recent House Votes

Today, the House passed HR 836, the Emergency Mortgage Relief Program Termination Act.  On Thursday, the House also passed HR 830, the FHA Refinance Program Termination Act.  Congressman Scott opposed both bills.

Keep track of all House votes at the Clerk's website.

Committee Votes

On Wednesday, the Financial Services Committee passed H.R. 839, the HAMP Termination Act and H.R. 861, the NSP Termination Act.  Congressman Scott opposed both bills, which are likely to be brought up for votes on the House floor next week.  You can read more information about the Committee votes on these bills on the Committee website.

March 10  - Bloomberg News quoted Congressman Scott in an article titled: U.S. House Panel Votes to Abolish Obama Foreclosure-Prevention Programs

“We have people holding on by their fingernails, trying to keep their homes,” said Representative David Scott, a Democrat from Georgia. “To assassinate these programs and have nothing to take the place of them, how irresponsible is that?”

The 2011 White House Easter Egg Roll will take place on Monday, April 25th, 2011. The event will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, storytelling and, of course, Easter egg rolling.

The National Park Foundation is selling commemorative wooden eggs to help support the annual Easter Egg Roll. The 2011 White House Souvenir Eggs will be on sale starting March 10th. For more information, please visit the National Parks Foundation: http://easter.nationalparks.org/.

Eliminate Wasteful Government Spending

Congressman Scott joined with his colleagues to introduce the “Reduce Unnecessary Spending Act of 2011.” This bill would require Congress and the President to work cooperatively to eliminate spending programs that are duplicative, inefficient and outdated. It will add another tool to make sure investments are targeted and designed to maximize economic growth. Senator John McCain and Senator Tom Carper have introduced the companion legislation in the Senate (S. 102).
