2016 Session Kicks Off
Congress is back in session and 2016 has started on a slower track. Most bills on the floor have been messaging bills, such as another attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Congressman Scott signed a letter with the Congressional Black Caucus to ask that the Administration investigate and assist with the lead poisoning of the municipal water in Flint, Michigan. President Obama has declared a state of emergency for the area.
USDA to pay $22 million to Georgia families
Were you denied SNAP benefits due to the massive failure of the DFCS call-in system? You may be eligible for a one-time payment from the US Department of Agriculture. About $22 million will be paid to over 47,000 Georgia households.
The local DFCS office will not be able to check your status. You will need your Client Identification (ID) or Food Stamp Assistance Unit (AU) number. You must call 1-855-632-9035 or check via the inspector general's website.
Georgia Presidential Primary is March 1
Are you following the presidential campaigns? Did you know that the Georgia presidential primary is about a month away on March 1? The deadline to register to vote or update your registration is February 1. To check your status or request an absentee ballot, visit the Georgia Secretary of State's website.

New Drone Registration Rule Starts January 21
Did you get a drone for Christmas? If you own a small unmanned aircraft that weighs between 0.55 pounds and 55 pounds, you must register with the Federal Aviation Administration's Unmanned Aircraft System registry before flying outdoors. People who do not register could face civil and criminal penalties. Unmanned Aircraft weighing more than 55 pounds must register using a different system. To learn more, visit the FAA website.
Last Minute Passport Assistance
Do you have an upcoming trip abroad? Is your passport updated? Some countries require that your passport have at least 6 months before the expiration date before allowing you into the country. If you need help with last minute travel abroad, you can use the Atlanta Passport Agency for assistance. For new passports or non-urgent renewal requests, visit the State Department online.
