Congressman Scott in the District
On Friday, Congressman Scott hosts the House Agriculture Committee in Atlanta. The Committee members will tour the Centers for Disease Control where they will discuss food safety. Then, the Committee will meet in Morrow for an open hearing on programs authorized by the Farm Bill. The hearing will be held at 1:30 at the National Archives Building near Clayton State University.

Congressman Scott Attends Session on Nuclear Nonproliferation
Congressman Scott returned from meetings of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s Science and Technology Committee in New York. The meetings, held at the U.N., coincided with a speech to the UN by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. As the General Rapporteur of the Science and Technology Committee, Congressman Scott will produce annual Committee General Reports on subjects of highest relevance for the Committee at that time. The General Report for the Committee in 2010 will discuss NATO relations with Russia in areas that include nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament, missile defense, energy security and the Arctic.
Congressman Scott joins the New Democrat Coalition in introducing theInnovation and Entrepreneurship Agenda. The policy proposal builds upon the New Democrats' long standing commitment to policies that embrace technology and innovation to drive sustainable economic growth, competitive businesses and a strong workforce. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Agenda provides detailed proposals to invest in people, investing in ideas, and help companies and workers compete and win in a global marketplace.
Recent Votes
Congressman Scott voted for the bipartisan Home Star Energy Retrofit Act (H.R. 5019). This bill will provide immediate incentives for consumers who renovate their homes to become more energy-efficient. Home Star will create an estimated 168,000 American jobs in construction, manufacturing and retail and save about 3 million American families an estimated $200-500 per year on their energy bills. The reduction in energy usage will reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Children of Fallen Heroes Can Apply for “Fry” College Scholarship
The Department of Veterans Affairs will start taking applications for The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship, which Congress passed and was signed into law last year. The “Fry Scholarship” expands the New GI Bill education benefits to cover the full cost of a college education for all of the children of service members who have died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001.
