Dear Friend:
In Washington, there is a lot of talk about the budget plans being drafted by what some call the Super Committee. Formally known as the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, this panel was created by the Budget Control Act of 2011. The Committee is charged with issuing a formal recommendation to Congress on how to reduce the federal deficit by at least $1.5 trillion over the next decade.
The Joint Select Committee is comprised of six Democrats and six Republicans evenly balanced between parties and the House and Senate. By law, the Committee's bipartisan recommendation will receive an up-or-down vote in Congress before December 23, 2011. To learn who is on the Committee and write to them, visit their website at: http://www.deficitreduction.gov/public/

More Help to Refinance Mortgages
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac announced a new set of rules to allow more Americans to refinance their mortgages through the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP). Almost 9 million families refinanced into a lower cost mortgage through Fannie and Freddie with approximately 10 percent of those mortgages being helped via HARP. This is the only refinance program that enables borrowers who owe more than their home is worth to take advantage of low interest rates and other refinancing benefits.
