Congressman David Scott Votes to Fund Government, Prevent Shutdown

On Thursday night, Congressman David Scott voted in support of the bipartisan, bicameral deal to keep the government open and fund the remaining federal appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2019. Scott issued the following statement:

"While this deal did not provide any disaster assistance for Georgia Farmers impacted by Hurricane Michael last fall, it represents the best possible deal to responsibly fund our government and ensure federal workers do not have to suffer through another shutdown. I am very pleased that the bill provides $17 billion in infrastructure investments, more than $3 billion to help state & local law enforcement keep communities safe, a long overdue pay raise for federal workers, environmental protection measures and increased support for small businesses."

Congressman David Scott Introduces Legislation to Strengthen Underbanked Communities

Congressman David Scott (GA-13) introduced legislation to better address the needs of “under-banked, un-banked, and underserved” communities in America. H.R.1285, the Improving Access to Traditional Banking Act of 2019 will direct the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to thoroughly investigate and report to Congress recommendations on how to lessen Americans’ reliance on non-traditional banking products.

“Far too often, both in the 13th District of Georgia and across America, people are using financial services from outside the traditional banking system. This means that those who already have lower incomes often pay more in fees and penalties, even for simple services like cashing a check. This simply is not workable, especially for the African-American families who are disproportionately affected.”

Representatives David Scott and Dr. Roger Marshall Introduce Endometriosis Awareness Month Resolution

Representative David Scott (D-GA-13) recently led a bipartisan group of 14 House Members to introduce H. Res. 118. This resolution expresses support for the designation of March 2019 as Endometriosis Awareness Month. Endometriosis impacts 1 in 10 women of reproductive age in the United States and an estimated 200 million women worldwide.

“It is an honor to work with my colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Endocrine Society to establish Endometriosis Awareness Month, bring attention to this important women’s health issue, and shed light on this debilitating disease. We must continue our efforts to ensure women receive quality treatment and eliminate the burden of this disease on women’s lives.”
