Congressman David Scott, Representing Georgia's 13th District

Dear Friend:

Congress has been in session for just a few days and already partisan politics have resumed where they left off at the end of 2012.  While the rhetoric may be heated at times, I am still hopeful that we can find areas of agreement.  One small step we took was to pass a bill to prohibit pay increases for Members of Congress and federal employees for the third year in a row (H.R. 3835).  The House also passed a bill to prohibit the use of TANF benefits in any casino, liquor store or strip club (H.R.3567).  I voted for both measures out of the principle that Congress should not have a pay increase during a recession and public assistance funds should only be used for legitimate needs such as food or diapers.  However, neither will make a dent in the federal deficit.  Hopefully, we can soon find more substantive bills to pass with bipartisan agreement.

You can always look up votes and bills on Thomas.loc.gov Please, take a few minutes to read about the latest news in the district and D.C.
