Recent votes

Congressman Scott voted for the Small Business Lending Fund Act (H.R. 5297) and the Small Business Jobs Tax Relief Act (H.R. 5486).  These measures will expand much needed lending to small businesses and offer tax incentives to help small businesses grow, hire, and fuel our economy.  For more information about the legislation, click here.

Congressman Scott voted this week for the Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Performance Improvement Act of 2010.  This measure will help Congress conduct more effective oversight, make better-informed authorization and appropriation decisions, identify and eliminate duplicative programs, and help improve the performance of federal programs. Details about this legislation can be found here.

Congressman Scott in the news.

On June 14, the Douglas County Sentinel ran a story about the hometown tribute to Ricky Dobbs - a Douglas County High graduate, who is the quarterback for the Naval Academy football team.  Congressman Scott gave remarks to the event and later commended the young man with a speech on the House floor.

Monday, May 14 was flag day.  You may not know that Congressman Scott authored the law adding Fathers Day to the list of official days to fly the flag.  A constituent shared this oversight to the Congressman when he realized that Mothers Day was recognized, but not Fathers Day.  So, fly the flag this Sunday in honor of fathers.

Recent Grant Announcements

Clayton County EMS has been awarded $162,772 for Operations and Safety from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has funded public housing authorities for capital and management activities, including modernization and development of public housing.   District recipients:  College Park $456,836, College Park $39,480, Douglas County $174,901, Fairburn $37,396, Hampton $64,840, Jonesboro $47,508, Marietta $863,341, Marietta $405,575, Marietta $160,471 - TOTAL $2,250,348

Expired legislation - unemployment insurance.

Information about long-term unemployment benefits.  Unfortunately, the House has passed extensions to the program, but the Senate has not acted quickly enough before the law expired.  This creates gaps in coverage and hardship for constituents.  In addition, the House has extended the Flood Insurance Program, but the Senate is still sitting on the legislation.  If you need assistance with an expired program, please contact my office at the numbers below.

Thank you for taking time to read my newsletter.  If I can be of assistance, please contact me through one of the addresses located at the end of this message.  Have a good rest of the week.

Sincerely,

David Scott
Member of Congress
