Congressman David Scott Has Secured $13,672,044 in Projects Funding for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District

Today, Congressman David Scott (GA-13), Democratic Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee and Senior Member of the House Financial Services Committee, voted on passage for the first Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Appropriations Package.

This measure funds includes a historic $13,672,044 in new federal funding in Congressman David Scott’s district.

These fifteen projects include new money to improve transportation and infrastructure, implement crucial water storage upgrades in flood-prone communities, enhance affordable housing developments, and create jobs in Clayton County, Henry County, Douglas County, Cobb County, Fulton County, the City of College Park, and the University of Georgia.

Congressman Scott said “I have always prioritized bringing federal dollars back home to my district in Georgia. And I appreciate working with my local city and county partners to ensure that they have the financial resources to prosper.”


The House of Representatives voted to pass 15 of Congressman Scott’s projects, including:

Project Name: Serving Homeless Youth Project
Requesting Organization/Entity: Christian City
Amount Funded: $500,000
Explanation of Request: Christian City would use this funding to construct two new living quarter cottages to serve foster care children.


Project Name: City of College Park Finding the Flint Restoration Project
Requesting Organization/Entity: City of College Park
Amount Funded: $500,000
Explanation of Request: The City of College Park would use this funding to transform the vacant property purchased into a public nature reserve and park.

Project Name: City of College Park Water Supply Project
Requesting Organization/Entity: City of College Park
Amount Funded: $959,752
Explanation of Request: The City of College Park would use this funding for the designing, planning, and purchasing of a new water storage tank and booster station.

Project Name: South Cobb Drive Improvement Project 
Requesting Organization/Entity: City of Smyrna

Explanation of Request: 
The City of Smyrna would use this funding to widen and provide multi-modal improvements along the corridor and separate through traffic from local travel lanes.

 City of Stockbridge Water Line Improvement Program
Requesting Organization/Entity: City of Stockbridge

Explanation of Request: The City of Stockbridge would use this funding for designing, planning, construction, and soft costs (including design fees and task orders) to upgrade the city’s water system. 
 
Project Name: City of Stockbridge Pedestrian Bridge Project  
Requesting Organization/Entity: 
City of Stockbridge

Explanation of Request: 
The City of Stockbridge would use this funding to support completion of the preliminary steps for a pedestrian bridge that will provide safe connectivity on a heavily traveled arterial roadway that provides access to many residences and businesses, and passageway to downtown.

Lee Road Widening/Sweetwater Project

Douglas County Board of Commissioners

Explanation of Request: 
Douglas County would use this funding for the widening of the northern portion of Lee Road/S. Sweetwater Road.

Project Name: 
Lee Road Extension/South Douglas Loop Project
Requesting Organization/Entity: 
Douglas County Board of Commissioners

Explanation of Request: 
Douglas County Board of Commissioners would use this funding for construction of a new roadway alignment that will connect Lee Road south of SR 92 to Bomar Road to improve overall mobility and connectivity within the southern portion of Douglas County.

East Atlanta Road Resurfacing Project

Henry County

Explanation of Request: 
Henry County would use this funding to resurface 5.1 miles of East Atlanta Road, which connects the City of Stockbridge to the Fairview community.

Project Name: Lovejoy Police Department Body Cameras and Other Related Equipment Project 
Requesting Organization/Entity: City of Lovejoy Police Department 
Amount Funded: $67,000 
Explanation of Request: The Lovejoy Police Department would use this funding to purchase six body-worn cameras, four mobile radios, and three flock cameras.

Project Name: Safe Roads to Transit Project 
Requesting Organization/Entity: MARTA
Amount Funded: $500,000
Explanation of Request: MARTA would use this funding to plan, design, and construct pedestrian improvements at 46 sites located in the identified District 13 project area.

South Fulton Violent Crime Reduction Through Intelligence-Driven Policing Project
Requesting Organization/Entity: 
South Fulton Police Department

Explanation of Request: 
The City of South Fulton would use this funding to purchase ten SUV police cruisers, and to acquire the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN) program equipment, which is used to analyze ballistic evidence from aggravated assaults and other crimes where a weapon was used.

Explanation of Request: 
Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity would use this funding to complete the Hannah Springs affordable housing subdivision.

Project Name: Union City Shannon Parkway Streetscape Project

Explanation of Request: Union City would use this funding to provide infrastructure needed to support the city.

Project Name:
 Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic Lab Project
Requesting Organization/Entity: University of Georgia Research Foundation
Amount Funded: $1,000,000
Explanation of Request: The University of Georgia (UGA) would use this funding to improve infrastructure of the Tifton Laboratory, including upgrades to the outdated HVAC, air-handling system, and critical electrical upgrades.
