Tax Credits for Businesses that Hire Unemployed Workers

This year, businesses hired nearly 4.5million new workers who were eligible for HIRE Act tax exemptions. The HIRE Act exempts Social Security payroll taxes for businesses that hire workers who have been unemployed for 60 days or longer. In addition, the HIRE Act allows employers to claim a tax credit of up to $1,000 for each newly hired qualifying worker who is retained for one year. Flood Insurance Program Extended

Update July 14, 2010 - Today, the House passed H.R. 5114, the Flood Insurance Reform Priorities Act of 2010. H.R. 5114 will reauthorize and improve the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which is the primary source of reliable, affordable flood insurance coverage for millions of American homes and businesses. Recovery Act projects underway

This summer, more Recovery Act projects across the country will be active than in previous quarters to create jobs and economic growth for local businesses. The infrastructure jobs created in Georgia cannot come sooner. The spike in active projects this summer include: • Transportation: There will be six times as many highway projects underway in July 2010 as in July 2009. Today is Flag Day, which is celebrated annually on June 14th to celebrate the history of the United States flag and all that it symbolizes to Americans. The United States flag represents hope, courage and freedom to all American citizens. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Congressman Scott's recent participation in a NATO Parlimentary Assembley (PA) session in Latvia. Congressman Scott attended NATO PA meetings in Latvia and then visit security related sites in Montenegro and Bosnia during the Memorial Day recess. The Affordable Care Act created a new tax credit for biotechnology research, which will grow jobs, save lives, and bring down health care costs.
