Assistance for Small Business

The facts about small businesses and health care reform:

·         Health care reform will help small businesses obtain health insurance. It allows small businesses with 100 employees or less to pool their risk and benefit from group rates and a greater choice of insurers.

·         Reform means tax credits for small businesses. Small businesses with 25 employees or less and average wages of less than $50,000 will qualify for tax credits of up to 50% of the costs of providing health insurance. Reform will provide tax credits to 15,100 small businesses in Georgia's 13th District alone.

·         Health care reform will help create jobs and will play a critical role in our economic recovery. Reform will allow small businesses to add an estimated 80,000 new jobs nationwide.

·         Health care reform is fiscally responsible. The cost of health care reform under the legislation is fully paid for, in large part by eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and excessive profits for private insurers. The legislation will reduce the deficit by over $100 billion over the next ten years and by about $1 trillion over the second decade.

As a small business owner, here are the benefits you will see directly from health care reform:

Tax credits. Thousands of small businesses in our community will be eligible for tax credits of up to 50 percent of the cost of providing health insurance for their employees. Reform means money in your pocket.

Spread the risk. Small business owners know that the cost of health insurance is constantly skyrocketing. To bring down costs, even for the smallest companies, health care reform allows them to join a larger pool, which will spread the risk and allow them to benefit from group rates and more choices.
