Congressman and Mrs. David Scott give CBC Scholarship to Local Students

Congressman David Scott along with his wife Alfredia Scott presented Richard Williams, Ayanna Wade,  Kendra Sims, Julia Phanthavong, and Alyssa Smith with scholarships from the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Education Program. The recipients were chosen using a scale that judged them based on community involvement, academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. Mr. Williams comes from Smyrna and has just graduated from Maynard H. Jackson Senior High School. He will be attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in the fall majoring in biology with a concentration in neurology. Ms. Wade hails from Austell and has just graduated from Pebblebrook High School. This fall Ms Wade will be attending Wake Forest University and will be majoring in Political Science. Ms. Sims hails from Riverdale and has just graduated from North Clayton High School. She will be attending Auburn University this fall and will be studying Chemistry. Ms. Phanthavong hails from Hampton and is currently attending the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. Ms. Phanthavong has a 4.0 GPA and is very involved in children’s health care. Ms. Smith is attending Columbia University and is working towards a graduate degree in international relations. I know times have changed but one thing that you will always need is someone supporting you along the way. My wife, Alfredia and I have supported each other since we met in college and we will support you on your college journey.”
