13th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT ART SHOW OPENS

Today, the 13th Congressional Student Art Show will open to the public.  The art will be available for viewing at Arts Clayton from March 4, 2010 through March 26 from 5:30pm-7:30pm.  http://www.artsclayton.org/.  Winners of the Art Show will be announced on March 20 and students must be present to be eligible to win a scholarship award. 

“Every year I look forward to the arts competition,” Congressman Scott said.  “The talent displayed by the students in the 13th District continues to improve every year.  The dedication and time-commitment of the students on their art will be obvious in the pieces on display for their neighbors, friends and families to see.”

 149 pieces have been submitted from 21 area schools.  The participating schools include: Campbell High School, Cedar Grove High School, Charles Drew High School, Clayton County Fine Arts Magnet, Creekside High School, Douglas County High School, Forest Park High School, Jesus Christ of Hope Academy, Jonesboro High School, Lithia Springs High School, Lovejoy High School, McEachern High School, Morrow High School, Mt. Zion High School, Mundy's Mill High School, North Clayton High School, Osborne High School, Riverdale High School, South Atlanta Computer Animation & Design, South Cobb High School, and Stockbridge High School

Prizes being offered:

First Place
•$10,000 Scholarship to the Art Institute of Atlanta
•$6,000 ($1,500 a year for 4 years)y dcholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design
•Invitation to ceremony in Washington, D.C. - artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol

Second Place

•$5,000 Scholarship to the Art Institute of Atlanta
•Artwork displayed in Congressman Scott’s Washington office for 1 year

Third Place
•$2,000 Scholarship to the Art Institute of Atlanta
•Artwork displayed in Congressman Scott’s Jonesboro office for 1 year

Fourth Place
•$1,000 scholarship from the Art Institute of Atlanta
•Receive free week of art classes from the Art Institute
•Artwork displayed in Congressman Scott’s Smyrna office for 1 year

Fifth Place
• Artwork displayed in the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in the Youth Art Gallery
