Congressman David Scott will join Members of the Congressional Black Caucus for a scheduled meeting with President Bush at the White House on Wednesday, January 26, 2005.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity to meet with President Bush at the beginning of his second term and to begin a working dialogue on health care, education, economic opportunity, justice and retirement security,” Scott said. Wednesday’s meeting with the CBC will be the third time the CBC has met with President Bush in the past four years. The CBC delegation will be led by new CBC Chairman Representative Mel Watt (D-NC). Congressman Scott, a CBC member since 2003, is eager to discuss the president’s priorities and their impact on the growing deficit. “As we begin work in the 109th Congress, foreign policy remains at the forefront of my concerns. Today, President Bush asked Congress to provide an additional $80 billion for the war and I continue to stand with the president and our troops in their efforts to bring democracy to Iraq. However, I am eager to discuss how we will continue to pay for the war and fund the changes to Social Security the President supports without burdening our children with an enormous federal debt,” Scott continued. |
