Today, as the 109th Congress convenes, Congressman David Scott begins his second term as representative of Georgia’s 13th District with greater seniority in the House of Representatives. Scott quickly introduced the Keep the Promise of Medicare Act, legislation to stop damaging increases in Medicare premiums for Georgia’s seniors. Congressman Scott also reintroduced two bills from the 108th Congress to help military personnel earn higher education degrees, the Military In-State Tuition Act of 2005 and the Reservist and National Guard Opportunities and Protection of Education Act.

“The 109th Congress promises to be a challenging one as Congress faces an ambitious domestic agenda from President Bush, a massive international crisis in Indonesia, and the ongoing effort in Iraq. I’m excited to be back in Washington today and begin the important work set before us. I also look forward to continue working with my colleagues in Congress and the Bush Administration in promoting safe, vibrant communities for our families in Georgia and across America,” said Congressman Scott. “We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us,” continued Scott.

Congressman Scott is now the highest ranking Georgia member on both the Financial Services and Agriculture Committees. Following a unanimous decision by the Democratic leadership in December, the Financial Services Committee now joins the Appropriations, Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means committees as one of the four most influential “exclusive” committees in Congress.
