As you may have seen from public awareness campaigns featuring the color pink, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  It is important to understand what breast cancer is and how to check for it.  The Centers for Disease Control is a good source of scientific-based information about this cancer and other cancers.  http://www.cdc.gov/features/breastcancerawareness/

Congressman Scott has long been a champion in raising breast cancer awareness.  Every year, he hosts a health fair during which hundreds of women receive breast exams by a doctor. He also voted in favor of the Patent Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148), which requires free preventative services, such as breast cancer screenings, in all new health insurance plans. IThe law prohibits plans from charging women more than men for health and bans the insurance industry practice of rejecting applicants with pre-existing conditions. Finally, the law protects women from bankruptcy by requiring health plans to limit annual out-of-pocket spending. To learn more about the law, visit: http://www.healthcare.gov/
