Congressman David Scott (GA-13), chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, today issued the following statement one year after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN: "One year ago, George Floyd’s murder challenged all of us to reckon with our nation’s legacy of systemic racism and to demand accountability for police violence in America. Though his murderer was convicted, we cannot go back to business as usual. Equal justice under the law must be more than an empty platitude and our justice system must demand accountability from law enforcement officers to the same laws they are sworn to uphold. It’s time for the Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and make clear once and for all that no one should be above the law because they wear a badge." ### |
