Congressman David Scott Votes to Extend Enhanced ACA Tax Credits After Months of Republican Delays and Inaction

WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, Congressman David Scott (GA-13) released the following statement following his vote to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced tax credits.

“Today I voted YES to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits because no Georgian should have to choose between paying their health insurance bill and putting food on the table. Access to these tax credits has been a lifeline for working families, seniors, and small business owners across our state and across the thirteenth district.  From the moment they were enacted, they lowered monthly premiums and helped over 1.5 million Georgians stay insured during a time of rising costs. Unfortunately, this moment did not have to come with so much uncertainty. For months, President Trump and Republicans had the opportunity to act sooner and extend these credits before families felt the impact. Instead, their delays and political theater allowed premiums to rise, creating unnecessary anxiety for thousands of Georgians who depend on affordable coverage. Many saw their monthly costs spike, not because the system failed, but because Congress failed to act in time. My vote was about economic security, fairness, and keeping a basic promise to the American people. No one should lose coverage they can’t afford to lose,” said Congressman David Scott.

Because of the enhanced premium tax credits, ACA enrollment has more than doubled, allowing over 24 million Americans to afford quality coverage. That means families were not forced to choose between groceries and doctor visits, seniors could stay on the plans they preferred, and self-employed individuals could finally keep access to affordable health insurance. By providing lower monthly costs and capping premiums based on income, these credits ensure working and middle-class families aren’t punished simply for earning a modest living. Now, as a result of Democrats’ unified voice and a small number of honorable Republicans, Congress will protect millions of Americans from seeing their premiums surge by an average of 114%.
