Henry Daily Herald: Scott Joins NATO Assembly

U.S. Rep. David Scott will assist in tackling issues on an international level from May 23 to June 1.

The congressman will be a member of the U.S. delegation to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's parliamentary assembly. The assembly brings together members from different nations to discuss international issues.

"I am honored to join our delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly," said Scott. "I plan on speaking with our allies [about] the expansion of global missile defense, Russian involvement in Georgia, Turkish relations and [the] Iran Sanctions Act."

Scott will travel to Berlin, Germany, Istanbul, Ankara and Incirlik,Turkey.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly has five committees, including political defense and security, science and technology, civil dimension of security along with economics and security.

"Our NATO partnership has long been a vital factor in maintaining the security of our nation and the world," said Scott. "... Moreover, as we move forward with addressing looming challenges, such as global warming and the threat of Iran, we must continue to build strong relationships with our NATO friends so that we meet these threats in a multi-lateral way."

Scott is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and vice chair of the subcommittee on terrorism, non-proliferation and trade. He is also co-chair of the Democratic Study Group on National Security.
