Congressman David Scott Announces $587,769 Awarded to Thirteenth District Public Safety Agencies

Today, Congressman David Scott (GA-13) announced the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), through the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), awarded $587,769 in grants to public safety agencies in the Thirteenth District to help prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus. The grants were funded as part of $850 million awarded under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act’s Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program.

“An essential aspect of public health in a crisis is public safety,” said Congressman Scott. “First responders are crucial members of our frontline community in this pandemic and it is more important than ever that we ensure they have the resources necessary to assist citizens in need. The CARES Act recognizes that our law enforcement officers respond to countless situations daily and need the personal protective equipment, training, supplies, and staffing to meet these new challenges. Funds will also be used to address the medical needs of inmates in our prisons, jails, and detention centers.”
