Making Government Efficient

Update July 27, 2010.  Today, the House passed The Surface Transportation Earmark Rescission, Savings and Accountability Act,  which rescinds $713 million in unobligated funding for 309 earmarks contained in previous surface transportation authorizations – thereby ensuring that these funds will not be used to increase spending in the future.

On July 13, I voted to help pass S. 1508, Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act.  The bill would reduce waste, fraud and abuse from the lack of proper oversight in federal agencies. The bill increases transparency by lowering the improper payment threshold for agencies, requiring agencies to develop action plans to avoid future waste, recovering overpayments, and holding agencies accountable.

I have voted for other bills to cut waste, save taxpayer dollars and improve the efficiency of federal agencies.  Including the following:

  • H.R. 2142, the Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Performance Improvement Act.  H.R. 2142 will improve the federal government performance management, and increase the availability and transparency of performance information (more information)

  • H.R. 5013, the IMPROVE Acquisition Act H.R. 5013 will clean up waste, fraud and abuse in the defense acquisition system (more information)

  • H.R. 2116, the Fiscal Honesty and Accountability Act.  The legislation seek to re-instate the binding pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) rules that helped lead to balanced budgets in the 1990s. (more information)
