Congressman David Scott Statement on House Republicans Blocking Bipartisan Senate Disaster Relief Bill

Today Congressman David Scott (GA-13) issued the following statement after House Republicans objected to passage of the $19.1 billion disaster relief bill adopted overwhelmingly by the Senate:

“It’s a shame and a disgrace. It’s so unfair to our farmers and to the people of this great nation who have suffered from natural disasters of devastating floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and more.

“Congressman Chip Roy should hold his head down in shame for this disgraceful and un-American act of holding up this badly needed financial help.”

Congressman David Scott is Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy, and Credit. Scott has been fighting for disaster assistance for Georgia farmers, who suffered over $2.5 billion in losses when Hurricane Michael struck more than 7 months ago, and for others around the country trying to rebuild after devastating natural disasters.
