House Agriculture Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy and Credit Chairman David Scott of Georgia delivered the following statement at today's virtual roundtable with Chairman Heath Tarbert of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission:
“I am happy and proud that this is the first House Agriculture subcommittee roundtable since the coronavirus altered the lives of those on this subcommittee as well as the lives of every citizen of the United States.
“The work of this subcommittee remains the same even in the current pandemic; we will continue our work on behalf of the American people.
“Today we are here to conduct oversight of the CFTC and Chairman Tarbert has been kind enough to provide us an update on the markets as they have responded to unprecedented challenges and uncertainty with volatility.
“I look forward to his update today on how the CFTC is working to ensure that any funny business or scammers hoping to take advantage of any confusion are met with swift justice.
“I also hope that everyone on this subcommittee is continuing to push to move forward the CFTC reauthorization bill that was reported out of the full committee on October 30th.
“I know that Chairman Tarbert knows how important it is that the CFTC have the security of a current active reauthorization, and this subcommittee will not rest until it is law.”
