Congressman David Scott to Discuss Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran Security Issues at NATO Assembly Meetings
Congressman David Scott (D-GA), a voting member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, is traveling to Brussels, Belgium, Paris, France and Rome, Italy for meetings with senior NATO officials, February 17-25. Scott will also visit wounded soldiers at Ramstein Air Base Hospital in Germany; soldiers who were wounded fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“With fierce fighting expected in Afghanistan in just a few weeks and with pressure growing on NATO allies to provide more troops to fight the Taliban and al Qaeda, this is indeed a very critical time for NATO,” Congressman Scott said.

“It is also very important for the United States to increase our dialogue with other nations,” Congressman Scott continued. “And it is particularly critical for us to move aggressively to build stronger partnerships and a more positive image with other nations, especially in Europe and the Middle East, as we work to bring peace to Iraq and ease tensions with Iran.”

Scott added, “I am especially anxious to visit our wounded soldiers and let them know how proud we are of them and how grateful we are as a nation for their service and sacrifice.” This is the second time Congressman Scott has traveled to the hospital in Germany to visit wounded soldiers.

Congressman Scott will return from his trip abroad on Monday, February 26. In addition to his position with the NATO Parliament, Congressman Scott is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Co-Chair of the Democratic Study Group on National Security.
